Local Softball League Steps Up To Help Abused Children
The Montrose Softball League Association (MSLA) goes to bat for the abused and neglected children of Harris County! Child Advocates scored a second donation from this family-friendly LGBT Softball Association that began supporting our mission through its beneficiaries program in 2018. MSLA was established in 1980 to promote amateur softball with emphasis on participation from Greater Houston’s LGBTQ community.
As a beneficiary of the proceeds generated by MSLA’s activities, Child Advocates has received $7,500 to-date from this non-profit of over 650 players. The 2019 spring season games were played at Houston Sportsplex, and in June Child Advocates received a check during the league’s closing ceremonies featuring live entertainment. The check presentation was attended by Child Advocates’ Advocacy Coordinator, Nicholas Alvarado, who currently serves as the league’s Secretary as well as a softball team member. MSLA has also supported Child Advocates by holding a holiday gift drive to collect new toys like games and dolls. The best way to get involved in MSLA is to attend a Recruitment Day (www.houstonmsla.org/join) where players age 18+ are placed into various divisions relative to skill levels.
