In the wake of Hurricane Harvey, and its destruction across Houston, many of the abused and neglected children we serve find themselves once again in unfamiliar places. For our children, this is not the first time they have been displaced from their homes, and we know that they will need our help as they recover from the storm.

We have already begun assessing the needs of our children, and we have heard from close to 35 families that have suffered damage from the flooding. Sadly, we expect this number to grow as we hear from more families. Many of you have asked us how you can help. Here's how...

1. Donate

Now, more than ever, we need your support. Your generous donations allow us to not only give advocate volunteers to children who need them, but also to assist caregivers in meeting their basic needs. By continuing to support Child Advocates financially, you will enable us to continue our work with Houston's abused children. 2. Volunteer

Many of our children are displaced from their temporary homes, and are transitioning somewhere new yet again. They are children who need an advocate. Our advocates not only speak up for children in court, but they also provide a constant presence while building a trusting relationship with a child. The job of an advocate is to make sure that abused children's needs are met by speaking on their behalf. As our children recover from their experience with Hurricane Harvey while also navigating the foster care system, an advocate by their side could be their most valuable asset. 3. Gift Cards

We have created a gift card drive to help those who have experienced loss from Hurricane Harvey. These gifts will help us get our children back on their feet, and one step closer to finding a safe and permanent home where they can thrive. We are collecting general cash gift cards (such as Visa, MasterCard or American Express), as well as the following gift cards:

• Grocery (H-E-B, Kroger or Randalls)
• Superstores (Target or Wal-Mart)
• Home Improvement Stores (Lowes or Home Depot)
• Gas Stations
• Amazon or JCPenney
