Discovering the Art of Fashion

On Wednesday, December 7, the Friends of Child Advocates gathered in the Legends Ballroom at the Royal Sonesta hotel to host their annual Angels of Hope Luncheon and Fashion Presentation. More than 550 guests joined to help raise funds and awareness for Houston’s abused and neglected children all while sipping champagne and trying their luck at some incredible raffle items.

This year’s luncheon, led by chairs Lisa Erwin and Cherie Hassenflu featured a Neiman Marcus fashion show highlighting a variety of couture and ready-to-wear designers, titled the “Art of Fashion.” The show did not disappoint and led with a heart shaped fur coat by Saint Laurent made famous by singer Rhianna. Guests were invited to shop for holiday gifts in the lobby at the Neiman Marcus pop-up shop before and after.

Child Advocates honored longtime supporter Lisa Swalm Frantz for her philanthropy and generosity toward the organization. Emcee Lisa Malosky led the way to introduce the honoree, and Lisa Swalm Frantz spoke of the importance of generosity passed through her family and the incredible work Child Advocates is doing for the Houston community. Guest speakers Sandra and Robert Betancourt told the story of their two adopted sons who are now thriving, in part because of their relationship with Child Advocates.

The Angels of Hope Luncheon has proven to be instrumental in promoting community awareness of the organization’s efforts. The event helps to ring in the holiday season, raising money to help Child Advocates continue their mission to help abused and neglected children in Harris County through the training and dedication of court appointed advocates.

Overall, the 2016 Angels of Hope Luncheon and Fashion Presentation raised over $400,000 with raffle ticket sales alone raising more than $48,000. Child Advocates hopes to make future luncheons even more successful with the help of the community and the dedication of participants.
