Play the Shell Houston Open course before the pros arrive and help local children's charities

HOUSTON (Feb. 24) -- Every golfer dreams of playing a PGA-prepped course to see how they might measure up against the world's top golfers. For the second year in a row and only days before the pros arrive in town for the prestigious Shell Houston Open, the Deacons of Deadwood Motorcycle Club will give local golfers of all skill levels that chance at the Golf Club of Houston's famed Tournament Course.

The fundraiser, one of two each year the Deacons of Deadwood hold to raise donations for select local children's charities, will be held Friday, March 17, just 10 days before the PGA takes over the course for the SHO. It is the final time the course will be open to local golfers, with 100-percent of the proceeds going to local children in need.

"I love to play golf, as do many of our members, and it really is fun to play the course when it's in PGA trim," said Deacons of Deadwood President Geoff Seaman. "This course is a challenge and when they have the greens nice and fast and the rough cut to PGA length, it's a true test of your abilities. Don't forget, this course is set-up to prepare the PGA guys for The Masters, so it's really special.

"Best of all, we have a tremendous amount of fun and we raise a bunch of money for the Houston-area children's charities we support. To date, the Deacons of Deadwood Motorcycle Club has distributed more $2.2 million directly to our select group of vetted charities and we have no plans of slowing down."

Organizers are encouraging interested parties to sign up immediately at https://deaconsofdeadwood.org/2017-golf-tournament/ as the tournament will be limited to 36 foursomes. There are also sponsorship opportunities available, ranging from title rights to individual hole signage.

Foursomes are $2,000, and individuals can play for $500 per golfer. Entry fees include breakfast and a gourmet lunch on site, team trophies for gross score, net score and most honest score,
individual trophies for longest drive and closest to the pin, and a hole-in-one contest for a 2017 Chevrolet Corvette.

After this event, the Golf Club of Houston's Tournament Course will be off limits until the professionals arrive for practice and the annual Pro-Am tournament. The SHO runs from March 27-April 2.

"Considering it costs more than $10,000 to play in the Pro-Am, our tournament is a great alternative," said Deacons of Deadwood member John Aubrey, the tournament chairman. "Plus, it can't be overstated that all proceeds go towards one of the 11 charities we're supporting this year."

In 2017, the Deacons of Deadwood are proudly supporting Child Advocates, Archway Academy, Children At Risk, Addi's Faith, Joe Joe Bear, Camp Quality, Casa de Esparanza, Devereux Foundation, Mission Bend Christian Academy, Dream League, and Boys and Girls Country.
