This past Saturday, seven Target stores opened extra early all across Houston as nearly 500 of Child Advocates kids lined up to shop for back-to-school clothes. Through our annual Childspree, each child was matched with a personal shopper who helped them pick out brand-new uniforms, clothes, shoes and accessories to start the year strong. For many of the children, it was the first time they ever received something new or had the chance to pick out things to match their own style.
At one store, we were checking in three little girls, all under the age of eight, when one of the little girls started to cry. She told us that she saw her oldest sister, who lives in a different foster home, in the check-in line and told us how much she misses her. We were able to get all four of the girls to shop together! Oh the smiles it brought even to have just the morning together.
Once all the children had filled their shopping bags, they filled their bellies with breakfast and were given a backpack full of school supplies for the upcoming year. The smiles on their faces made the early morning well worth it!
We are so grateful to our amazing sponsors who made this heartwarming morning possible: CenterPoint Energy, Houston Thetas, The Junior League of Houston, Kiewit, Partners, Quanta, Spark Energy, Sunnova, Target and Twin Eagle. Your support of this event helped our kids start the school year strong!
