Child Advocates receives $15,000
donation from Deacons of Deadwood M/C

HOUSTON (March 31) -- Ten members of Deacons of Deadwood Motorcycle Club presented a check for $15,000 to Child Advocates CEO Sonya Galvan during the annual Child Advocates Spring Luncheon, held Friday afternoon at the Cherie Flores Garden Pavilion in the McGovern
Centennial Gardens.

"We are always so grateful for the continuous support from the Deacons of Deadwood," said Galvan, noting this is the fourth year in a row the club has helped fund Child Advocates. "They are making a direct impact on so many abused children in Houston through their amazing partnership and we look forward to working with them for years to come."

The check presentation was one of many that have already taken place or will occur in the coming weeks as the Deacons of Deadwood continue their 15-year history of helping local children's charities. To date, Deacons of Deadwood members have contributed more than $2.2 million to the various charities they support.

"Deacons of Deadwood's association with Child Advocates is one of our strongest charity alliances," club representative Steve Abney said. "We are delighted and proud to provide support to their mission of giving a voice to abused children in Harris County. Their program of court-appointed advocacy helps break the vicious cycle of child abuse and allows these children a chance to heal and flourish until they can return home or be placed with a loving relative or adoptive family. Child Advocates is precisely the kind of organization that Deacons of Deadwood seek to support."

Child Advocates volunteers speak for abused children lost in the system and guide them into safe environments where they can thrive. Volunteers also serve children who have been placed in foster care because they can no longer live safely at home. These volunteers are appointed by juvenile and family court judges to serve as a child's "guardian ad litem," giving them the power to make a profound difference in each child's life.

In 2017, the Deacons of Deadwood are providing funding to Child Advocates, Archway Academy, Children At Risk, Addi's Faith, Joe Joe Bear, Camp Quality, Casa de Esparanza, Devereux Foundation, Mission Bend Christian Academy, Dream League, and Boys and Girls Country.

A registered 501(c)(3) charity, the Deacons of Deadwood boasts a diverse membership of executives and blue-collar workers bonded by a love of motorcycles and donating their time and talents to bettering their community. The club was founded in 2002.
