Re: Child Advocates Receives a Grant from the Texas Bar Foundation
Release date: November 12, 2020
Location: Houston, Texas
Recently, Child Advocates received a generous gift of $5,000 from the Texas Bar Foundation. Since its inception in 1965, the Texas Bar Foundation has awarded more than $21 million in grants to law-related programs. Supported by members of the State Bar of Texas, the Texas Bar Foundation is the nation's largest charitably-funded bar foundation.
This gift will help to fund Child Advocate's Collaborative Family Engagement Program. The goal of our CFE program, which launched as a pilot in 2019, is to ensure that foster children have meaningful relational connections not only while they are in the state's care but also after they age out of the foster care system. To accomplish our CFE goal, we utilize a proven model to establish a dedicated team charged with building healthy relational connections for foster children lacking personal support systems. The specialized team includes representatives from both CPS and Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) who engage in a structured, child-centered approach to identify a network of viable relationships for each child. After a child ages out of the foster care system, this network of caring adults serves as the child's personal community and safety net.
This gift from the Texas Bar Foundation will enable Child Advocates to serve more of Houston's abused children, connecting them to family members who will be able to support them in the years to come.
