DEVELOPMENT DIRECTOR

Key Duties:

  • Essential Job Functions

    • Manage the CAI development team and efforts.  Plan, implement and evaluate development plan and strategies to exceed annual revenue budget ($3.5 million).  Coordinate these activities with the agency’s overall plans.
      • Identify and develop new funding sources for CAI and maintain existing relationships and funding.
      • Develop a comprehensive plan to cultivate and solicit organizations, corporations, foundations, individuals, and public sources.
      • Maintain and grow relationships with donors and prospective donors through phone calls, personal meetings and correspondence.
      • Support the efforts of each development team members through supervision and management in all areas of development: Friends of Child Advocates’ activities, Pull for Kids and other special events, Houston Children’s Festival, Foundations, Organizations, Corporations, Individuals and Direct Mail.
      • Provide innovative ideas and concepts that can be evaluated and implemented to secure funding.
      • Oversee Development’s administration and management of Blackbaud, ensuring that all data is maintained in an accurate, secure and timely manner.
    • Create and maintain a Development strategic plan in coordination with all department directors, Development Chair and CEO.
      • Work with Development team and Committee to identify and achieve annual goals and objectives as outlined in the strategic plan.
      • Work closely with CEO and leadership in the strategic planning process.
    • Establish and present revenue budget to Finance Director, Development Committee, and CEO.
      • Continuously analyze and evaluate revenue & contributions.
      • Work with  CEO and Finance Director on an as needed basis reviewing revenue and expenses.
      • Identify and maximize all funding opportunities.
    • Attend and participate in board meetings to give reports in collaboration with the Development Committee Chair and CEO.
      • Prepare and brief Development Chair & CEO on current development activities.
      • Create presentations relevant to development activities to inform and educate the board.
      • Attend and participate in Advisory Board Luncheons to assist with donor recognition.
    • Identify new materials and opportunities for information regarding latest research and information on child abuse and neglect.  Incorporate into grants, newsletters, correspondence and other printed materials.
      • Evaluate and development department presentations on a regular basis and keep current on all CAI information.

    Other Job Functions

    • Participate in the identification and recruitment of Board, Advisory board and Friends of Child Advocates Council members by assisting the nominating committee.
    • Participate in training of new board members, advisory board members and Friends of Child Advocates Council.
    • Attend appropriate training and continuing education meetings to maintain professional standards, remain informed about development trends, and to learn innovative fundraising strategies.
    • Attend general staff meetings and conduct Development Team meetings.
    • Serve as a member of the Director’s team.
    • Represent CAI on community boards and in organizations as appropriate.
    • Along with CEO, members of the board, and development team, represent CAI at Donor meetings, coffees, galas, and other presentations
    • Serve as a member of Advisory Board Luncheon planning team.
    • Collaborate with Texas CASA and National CASA Association in developing statewide and national development strategies.
    • Attend CAI volunteer trainings and attend court hearings periodically.

Requirements:

  • 5 + years experience of successful fundraising experience in nonprofit arena ($2million +; heavy private funding a plus) or other business related experience
  • Executive level fundraising and management experience
  • BBA or Master’s degree, preferably in business, and related field experience is required.
  • Certification as Certified Fund Raising Executive or similar certification program is beneficial.
  • Experience in budget management and projections
  • Management experience including supervision of multiple work areas
  • Demonstrated successful experience in working with board of directors
  • Proven experience working with and managing volunteers
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills
  • Proven experience in successful grant writing and securing major and planned gifts
  • Proven organization, decision-making, and conflict management
