The Heroes Society is comprised of those donors who make an unrestricted financial commitment to the Child Advocates annual campaign (taking place each year in September and October), allowing the organization to provide court appointed advocate volunteers to more abused and neglected children. The campaign is intended to help us serve more children and grow our program, further distinguish Child Advocates from other organizations with 100% participation from volunteers, board members and staff, increase awareness about the importance of annual gifts to our mission and continue to build Child Advocates’ legacy. heroes society logo

If you only give one time this year, we urge you to make that gift to this campaign. Read our plea.

We have expanded our sponsorship opportunity to include case updates from a volunteer for interested Heroes Society members. Please select a child or sibling group below to sponsor a similar case and receive updates from a court appointed advocate volunteer:

TREVON
Newborn Trevon was an underdog from the start. Born PCP and cocaine positive, he was immediately admitted to the NICU and monitored closely while physically withdrawing from the drug.  Trevon’s mother – who tested positive for both PCP and cocaine – told hospital staff that she was unaware she was pregnant and had been using drugs to deal with the recent death of her own mother. Upon his release from the hospital, Child Protective Services placed Trevon in a foster home. To sponsor a child like Trevon and ensure that he finds his way to a safe and loving home, click here.

VALERIE
Eleven-year-old Valerie has a history of depression and has been diagnosed with bi-polar disorder. Yet when she threatened suicide, her father Mike ignored her and refused to take her for help. He has said repeatedly that he does not want Valerie in his home and will not take care of her. Upon investigation, it was discovered that he has another child in protective custody due to his repeated refusal to accept parental responsibilities. Valerie is currently in foster care. To sponsor a child like Valerie to ensure she gets the services she needs and ends up in a safe and permanent home, click here.

BENITA
Four-year-old Benita knew that she should do what her father told her to; after all, he was the boss. But sometimes the things he did hurt her. After recently returning from a scheduled weekend visit with her father at his girlfriend’s house, Benita disclosed that he had “put his finger in her colita.” She is currently living with her mother and is participating in therapy while the courts determine the facts of the case and her safest permanent placement. GENO
Seven-year-old Geno didn’t feel good. After being sent to the office with a disciplinary note, the school nurse determined he had a 101-degree fever and a red, sore throat. Upon returning to school later that week, Geno had bruising and broken blood vessels on his back, neck and chest. When asked about his injuries, he said his stepfather, who was angered by the disciplinary note and the fact he’d been sent home sick, “spanked him on the bottom, threw him down on the floor and stepped on him.” He was removed from his home and placed in foster care. MARIA
Five-month-old Maria was taken to the emergency room by her parents after accidently falling off the bed. Upon examination, physicians discovered Maria had both old and new brain hematomas and retinal hemorrhaging in three levels of her eyes, indicating that these injuries – as well as the most recent one – were non-accidental and likely the result of abuse and neglect. She was removed from her home and placed in foster care. DANTE
Four-year-old Dante and his two-year-old sister were removed from their parent’s home after police were alerted to a major domestic dispute. Law enforcement had serious concerns regarding the safety and protection of the children after witnessing the father’s violent behavior and the mother’s minimization of the situation. Dante and his sister were placed in their maternal grandmother’s home while the courts determine their permanent placement.  To sponsor a child like Dante and help provide he and his sister a safe and loving home, click here.

CRYSTAL, DAVID, SASHA and ASHLEY
For siblings Crystal, 17, David, 15, Sasha, 13, and Ashley, 10, moving into their grandmother’s house after their mom passed away was hard enough.  But things really took a turn for the worse when their grandmother began physically abusing them and the girls were sexually abused by their uncle.  Sasha later admitted that, in fact, that same uncle had been sexually abusing her since she was five. The children were taken into custody of the State and placed in foster care.  To sponsor a sibling group like Crystal, David, Sasha and Ashley, click here.
